Dewa

DEWA 19 is an Indonesian rock band From Surabaya, east Java that was formed in 1986 by four junior high school students (SMPN 6 Surabaya). The name of DEWA is acronym of the Dewa's founder name : Dhani (keyboard, vocals), Erwin Prasetya (bass guitar), Wawan Juniarso (Drums) and Andra (guitar). In Indonesian, the meaning of DEWA is God.

At the first, Dewa's based are in the Airlangga University complex, Wawan's Dorm. Dewa's first album was released in 1992 and received awards form BASF as the Best Newcomer and Most Popular Album of 1993. Due to incompatibility with another members, in 1994 during the proccess to make their second album Format Masa Depan, Wawan left the band. Wawan position as a drummer was replaced by Wong Aksan in 1995 after their 3th album Terbaik-terbaik was released. After the following album Pandhawa Lima was finished in 1997, Wong Aksan departed too and replaced by Bimo Sulaksono, a former member of Netral. Not long thereafter Bimo left too Dewa and colaboration with Bebi formed the band Romeo… to be continued
